Circle Skirt Calculator: Your Perfect Fit Guide
What Is This?
A digital tool that calculates:
- Waist radius
- Fabric dimensions
- Hem/seam allowances
For 4 skirt types: full (360°), 3/4 (270°), half (180°), and quarter (90°) circle skirts.
Key Formulas
- Waist Radius = (Waist + Seam Allowance) ÷ (2π × Angle Fraction)
- Angle fractions: Full=1, 3/4=0.75, Half=0.5, Quarter=0.25
- Outer Radius = Waist Radius + Skirt Length + Hem Allowance
- Fabric Needed = Outer Radius × 2 (both width and length)

FAQs
Q: Why does fabric width matter?
A: Standard fabric is 45” or 60” wide. The calculator warns if your skirt exceeds these dimensions.
Q: Can I use metric measurements?
A: Currently inches-only for North American users. Multiply cm values by 0.39 to convert.
Q: Why different skirt types?
A: Less fullness (e.g., quarter circle) uses less fabric and drapes differently than full circle.
Pro Tips
✔️ Add 2-3 extra inches if your fabric has directional prints
✔️ Interface shows actual size ratios - zoom your screen to match your fabric width
✔️ For heavy fabrics, reduce fullness to prevent bulky waistlines
Limitations
⚠️ Doesn’t account for stretch fabrics (add 10-15% reduction for knits)
⚠️ Assumes symmetrical cutting layout - adjust for patterned fabrics
⚠️ For waistbands, add 1” to your waist measurement for comfort
Note: Always make a muslin test version before cutting expensive fabric!
